Drain Hose Problem
Drain hose removes water from your washing machine. If the drain hose is leaking, kinked, bent, blocked or clogged, water will not be able to remove water from your washing machine. Inspect the drain hose thoroughly to ensure it is in perfect condition. In the case of kinks, straighten the drain hose. Diagnosing Your Problem
Put pressure on the lid switch of your washer using your hand to ensure that it works. Ideally, your washer will not drain if the lid is open or thinks the lid is not closed. This may be caused by two things, either the sensor is damaged, or you have indeed not closed the lid. Inspect the lid sensor to ensure that it is not broken by finding the part of your lid, which presses down as the lid closes. Press the switch down until you hear a click or see the light indicating the lid is closed. If neither of these happens, it means that you may have a broken lid switch and it may need to be replaced.
Check other parts of the washer for faults. Before you embark on this process, you first have to unplug your washing machine from its power source. Pull your washer away from the wall to create enough space for you to work on your washer and access your washing machine’s power cord. Pull the power cord gently from the socket to disconnect the washer from the socket. Doing this will eliminate the risk of electrical accidents from happening. As a precautionary safety measure, do not start working or handling the water in the washer before removing it from its power source.
Once your washer is disconnected from its source of power, drain the water in your washing machine. Start by removing all clothes in the washing machine’s drum. Using a plastic bowl, scoop water from the washing machine and pour it down the sink or bathtub.
Put the wet clothes from the washing machine in the sink or bathtub to avoid damaging your floor. Scooping water out of your washer is one of the easiest ways to drain it manually. Alternatively, you can place a bucket beneath the washer and disconnect the drain pipe.
Examine where the washer’s access panel is located. The pump of your washing machine is located on the bottom of your washing machine. When you gain access into the machine, you should see two tiny screws at the bottom of your washer’s front panel. If you do not locate the screws, your washer’s access is likely to be at the back. In most cases, top-loaders are accessed from the front.
Once you locate your access panel, unscrew its sides using a screwdriver. Be very careful when removing these screws not to damage anything. Put the screws in a safe place so that you may use them later. Hold the panel as you remove the screws so that it does not fall before you completely remove all the screws. Ideally, the screws are found near the bottom of the washing machine, at the corner of the panel. In other washers, you will see a small black panel, which will allow you to access the pump without necessarily removing the whole panel.
Using both of your hands, grab the bottom of the panel and carefully lift it forward. The top part of your panel should unhook from the top of the washing machine. When this portion unhooks, remove the panel carefully and put it aside. You should hold the panel well.
In the washing machine, you should be able to see three hoses that are attached to your washer from the back. Of the three, the drain hose pipe will be grey; the hot water hose is red while the cold water pipe is blue. Inspect the grey hose for kinks, dents, and any other damage. Fix it if it is damaged.
Shift your focus to the bottom of the washing machine to find a plastic pump fixed to the drain pipe. Typically, the pump is always at the base of the washer, in front or at the back. It is cylindrical and round with a base. You will also observe a grey drainpipe attached to the pump. It will also have a hose attached to it.
Gently disconnect the hose from the pump to see if there are clogs. Inspect both the pump and the hose for clogs. If you cannot see a clog, insert your fingers into the pump and hose to feel. You should look for a small piece of clothing or anything small that can block the hose and the pump.
If there is no clog in the pump or hose, you need to inspect your pump for damages. Insert your fingers into the pump to find out if the spinning function of the washer or any other part feels broken in the pump. In addition to this, you need to inspect the surface of the pump for cracks, broken pieces, or warps. Replace the pump if it is damaged.
Listen for unusual sounds from your pump. In most cases, damaged pumps produce weird sounds. They may also leak on to your floor. The pump may continue to show these signs depending on the severity of the issue.
If everything you try won’t work, you need to call a professional to fix the problem.
