Samsung Dishwasher Blinking Lights

Every time the lights on your dishwasher blink, this indicates the existence of a problem. This is what happens in old models of dishwashers that have no display panel. You can still tell what the error codes are by examining the combination of the blinking lights. However, you need to be careful about interpreting error codes, considering that the dishwasher blinks because of regular use.

You should only consider the regular blinking as an error code if the washer fails to work properly. To fix the error, you only need to make a slight adjustment and get things working normally again. This article explains the variations interpretations that can result from blinking lights and possible fixes.

Express 60 – Incorrect Water Pressure and Temperature

When the water pressure and temperatures are incorrect, the dishwasher will signal the error. Correct it by:

  • Ensuring that the water pressure and temperatures match the requirement of the water
  • Avoiding the use of floodgate hoses because they are incompatible with Samsung dishwashers

Adjust the Pressure Switch To Chance Water Pressure

If you’re still getting the express 60 error code, then you should try and adjust the pressure switch on your dishwasher. Doing this should fix the temperature on your dishwasher and get rid of the error.

1. Turn off the water supply and electricity. The water supply can be turned off under the sink using the spigot handle. You’ll need to turn it as far to the left as possible then test that you’ve done this correctly by turning on the water in the sink. You can also turn off the electricity by disconnecting the electric cord. You can also cut off the power by throwing the switch to the kitchen in your breaker box.

2. Remove the access panel to your dishwasher. The access panel is located on the pull.  You’ll need to pull the dishwasher out from the wall to do this properly.

3. Look for the water heater. It looks like a long tube with a box attached to it. You should notice it pretty easily as the only other items beneath this panel are the pipes and the pump. You’ll also notice the pressure switch which is a round pipe that threads into the heater itself. The top will be facing you when you have removed the panel.

4. Remove the cover on the pressure switch. You can remove the cover by unscrewing the cover in a counterclockwise motion. You’ll need to clamp on your locking pliers and turn to unscrew it. Below this cap, you’ll notice the pressure switch adjustment screw.

5. Unscrew the pressure switch adjustment screw. You’ll need to insert your flat-bladed screwdriver into the adjustment screw and turn it clockwise to reduce the pressure on the dishwasher nozzles. Turning it counterclockwise increases the pressure to the nozzles. If you are turning it counterclockwise, don’t unscrew too much because you might end up dealing with a leak in the fixture. Make a half turn first and then check the pressure by running a cycle to see if everything gets cleaned.

6. Reassemble the dishwasher. Once you have adjusted the switch, put the cap back on, screw the access panel back into place and push your dishwasher back into its alcove. Now, you are ready to give your adjusted dishwasher a try.

Contact the support center for further assistance if after doing this, the error still occurs.

Test If Thermostate Is Bad

The thermostat in your dishwasher is a resistor that changes the resistance depending on the temperature. They’re used in your dishwasher because the resistance at different temperatures in your dishwasher is known therefore your dishwasher can know when certain temperatures inside are reached.

Temperature °C

20
60
80
Resistance Ω

Rated Value Maximum Value Maximum Value
6080 6335 5765
1280 1278 1222
640 620 660

To test if the thermostat is bad, you need to check all the connections to the dishwasher sensor and to the board to make sure that they haven’t come loose. It’s unlikely that anything would’ve come loose but it’s always worth checking if there’s a bad connection. You can use a multimeter (view on Amazon) and set it to ohm to measure the resistance on the thermistor sensor on your Samsung dishwasher. When you test the sensor, the resistance drops as the temperature rises. If you’re getting inaccurate readings, then likely to be faulty.

Auto and Express 60 – Panel Detects a Stuck Button

This is an indication that there is a stuck button that the panel has detected. To fix it:

If your panel deters a stuck button or none of the buttons that you’re trying to touch are not working, then you can reset the touchpad. Once the touchpad has been reset, then the auto and express 60 error should disappear. You shouldn’t rule out the chance of error codes being the cause of the touchpad fault.

To reset your Samsung dishwasher’s touchpad, you should unplug the dishwasher and wait for a while so that the electrical charge is removed. Touch every button on the machine to identify the one that has malfunctioned Once unplugged, plug it back in to see if the touchpad is working. This is the fastest way to reset your dishwasher’s touchpad to get the buttons to start working again. Before turning the dishwasher back on again, make sure to leave the dishwasher unplugged for a couple of minutes before you turn it back on. This’ll ensure that the electrical charge has gone. If the error still recurs, call the support center for assistance.

Heavy and Express 60 – Unable to Heat

The dishwasher must heat the water in the washer for it to operate properly. If this does not happen with your dishwasher, then you need to request service by calling the customer support desk. A qualified technician needs to diagnose and fix the error.

Before you jump to any conclusions, you need to make sure that the heavy and express 60 error code you receive is accurate. You may get this code by mistake so it’s best to make sure. You need to unplug your dishwasher and leave it unplugged for 10 to 15 minutes. After this time period, try booting your dishwasher back up and check if the error code has gone. If the code doesn’t show up again, then the issue is fixed. If the codes still show up, then there’s a problem with your heating element that’s not allowing your dishwasher to heat up.

There are a few reasons why your heating element will be malfunctioning with the most common one being issues with your water heater. If your water heater is tankless, then the minimum flow rate might cause problems for your dishwasher – that’ll cause the heating systems to activate but your dishwasher still won’t be able to get any hot water. If you run the dishwasher, this could cause the heater element and heater relay to fail.

If you use an instant water heater aka a tankless water heater, the heating element in your Samsung dishwasher could instantly break down. Instant water heaters need a minimum gallon-per-minute flow and dishwashers have even lower flow rates. So if the dishwasher’s heating system is activated but the device isn’t getting hot water at all. This will happen each time you use your dishwasher and it could cause the heater really to eventually fail.

This will be the most common reason for the error. If you have a tankless water heater, you should take a look at the flow rate of your dishwasher and compare it to the flow rate of your water heater.

To inspect the heater relay, you need to unplug your dishwasher and pull it from underneath the counter. On the right side of the dishwasher, you’ll notice a metal panel. You can remove this and inspect the heater relay for a possible repair.

Auto and Heavy – Too much Water in the Dishwasher

If you receive the auto and heavy error code, it could indicate a problem with the drain as there’s too much water. Since your dishwasher is indicating that there’s too much water, you need to inspect the drain connection and the host. If the connection is clogged or the drain is connected incorrectly, this could cause the error. It’s also possible that the problem is related to some of the removable parts in the dishwasher’s drain area.

The drain hose is responsible for expelling unneeded water from your dishwasher. If there’s a problem with the drain hose, it can cause too much water to remain in the dishwasher. Any problems with the drain hose will cause your entire dishwasher not to work properly.

If the drain hose isn’t installed properly, it can affect how it works. During the installation, you may have forgotten to include an air gap or create a high loop. Improper installation isn’t the only thing that can affect your dishwasher. It could also be experiencing problems so it’s damaged. This usually happens when the drain hose and been bent and stuck in this position for a while which could cause damage to it. An old dishwasher along with an old drain hose can also cause it to wear down. If your drain hose has reached a point where it’s too worn down, then you need to replace it.

Over time, the drain leading from the kitchen sink or your garbage disposal may get clogged. Pouring grease down your drain is usually a cause for this. Any blockages in these areas will affect how your dishwasher operates as water won’t be able to flow through it efficiently which will cause the water levels in your dishwasher to be high.

  • Check the dishwasher’s drain connection at the sink
  • Inspect the drain base
  • Run water in the sin connected to the dishwasher
  • Clean the drains and filters to eliminate any debris in the tub

Auto, Normal, and Express 60 – Stuck Button Detected

In case the panel detects a stuck button, then the error code will register,as mentioned above. You need first to switch off the dishwasher and touch all the buttons. Once you confirm that one or more of these buttons is stuck, you may have to call for help.

Auto and Normal – Dishwasher Too Hot

When the dishwasher’s temperature is higher than normal, an error occurs. You may have to empty the dishwasher after unplugging it from the power source. You can then add detergent and run a normal cycle. Professional assistance will be required if the error persists even after trying the suggestions.

Auto – Wrong Pressure or Temperature

This error occurs when the water pressure or temperature of the dishwasher is incorrect. To fix:

  • Ensure that the water pressure and temperature meet the water supply needs
  • Avoid using flood safe hoses because they are incompatible with Samsung dishwashers
  • Ensure that the water supply is on

Delicate and Quick – Undetected Closed Door

This error happens when the sensor fails to detect that the dishwasher’s door is closed. You need first to verify and confirm that the door is locked properly before hiring expert service providers to check.

Delicate – Dishwasher Fails to Drain

When the delicate error occurs, the issue often touches on the dishwasher’s inability to drain.

  • Inspect the machine’s connection to the drain. It should be connected appropriately at the sink
  • Inspect the drain hose
  • Run water in the sink that is connected to the dishwasher
  • Clean the drain, sink and sump in the tub

Heavy, Delicate, and Quick – Failing Temperature Sensor

When the temperature sensors fail to behave normally, an error will record on the dishwasher. You need to first empty the dishwasher, and add detergent before running another cycle.

Heavy, Delicate, and Smart Auto – Failing Temperature Sensor

Just like before, there will be an error if the dishwasher sensor fails to operate optimally. To fix it, you must empty the dishwasher and then run another cycle. You may need to replace the sensor (View on Amazon).

Heavy and Delicate – Failing Heater

A failing heater means that the dishwasher will not work properly. Always empty the dishwasher and run a normal cycle if this happens. If you try this a few times without any success, then call for a technician to fix it.

The heavy delicate error means that the heater is failing. To inspect the heating element, you need to unplug your dishwasher and pull it from underneath the counter. On the right side of the dishwasher, you’ll notice a metal panel. You can remove this and inspect the heating element for any corrosion, blistering, or cracks.

Another quick fix would be to:

  • Empty the dishwasher.
  • Add detergent, and then run a normal cycle.
  • If the error still occurs, switch off power to the dishwasher at the circuit breaker and switch it back on.

Heavy and Quick – Too Much Water in the Dishwasher

Usually, when the dishwasher has a drain issue, there will be too much water in it because it is stagnant. You have to start by inspecting the drain connection at the sink. You should then check the drain hose and run water in the sink that has been connected to the dishwasher. You should finish by cleaning the filters, drain, and sump in the tub.

Heavy, Quick +, and Heavy Auto – Temperature Sensing Failing

You should first empty the dishwasher when you experience this error. Proceed to run a normal cycle after adding the detergent. If this fails to work, then you should call for customer support service.

Heavy and Quick + – Dishwasher Fails to Heat

The dishwasher works best at specific temperatures. This cannot happen if the machine is unable to heat water. You may need professional assistance when this happens. Do not attempt to fix any electric issues unless you are a trained technician.

Heavy and Smart Auto – Too Much Water in the Dishwasher

This is often linked to a drain issue. You should inspect the dishwasher drain connection at the sink, then find out if the drain hose is okay. When all checks out, run water in the connected sink, and clean the filters and drains.

Heavy (Occurs in models that have no Express 60) – Dishwasher Leaks

This error code indicates that the leaking sensor detects the presence of moisture or a blocked water reflector. The blockage occurs in water-wall models. When the problem occurs, the dishwasher turns itself on and fails to go off. It may also attempt to drain the water. If you realize that such an error exists:

  • Follow the user guide on leaking dishwashers

However, if you are certain that there is no leakage because of a recent inspection, then:

  • It is possible that some water may have splashed on the senor when moving the dishwasher. Make sure you allow it to dry before using rhe machine. In case the noise is too much, break the circuit
  • Remove the disposal cap if you have recently connected the dishwasher to a garbage disposal
  • Check to see that the detergent dispenser is not over-filled. There should also be no extra detergent outside the dispenser.

Visit the service center if the error persists since this may require the assistance of a professional.

Heavy Models with Express 60 – Drain Issue

This error occurs when there is too much water in the dishwasher. You have to inspect the sink to dishwasher connection first. When this checks out, inspect the drain hose next. After that, run water in the sink that is connected to the dishwasher. Crain the drains and sink to clear all debris that may be causing blockages.

Normal, Delicate, and Quick – Water is too Hot

You should check to see that the water is not above 176 degrees Fahrenheit. If the temperatures are within expected ranges, yet the error keeps occurring, there is an obvious malfunctioning. Call the support center for technical assistance.

Most of the errors mentioned above are common. A few tricks may help to get the dishwasher back to normal. However, when nothing works, always call a technician from the support center for help.

Heavy, Delicate, and Smart Auto

If you’re receiving this error, it’s an indication that the temperature sensor is failing. This means that the temperature sensor is failing. The temperature sensor senses the water temperature in your dishwasher.

  • Empty the dishwasher.
  • Add detergent, and then run a normal cycle.
  • Switch off power to the dishwasher at the circuit breaker. Check if the error is still there.

Heavy, Quick+, and Smart Auto

This means that the temperature sensor is failing. When the temperature sensors fail to behave normally, an error will record on the dishwasher. You need to first empty the dishwasher, and add detergent before running another cycle.

Heavy (models without Express 60)

If you don’t have the express 60 models, and you’re receiving this error, your dishwasher’s leak sensor detects moisture. You may also notice that your dishwasher turns itself on and will not turn off. This is because it’s attempting to drain the water away.

  • If you see a leak, then you’ll know that there’s a leak and you’ll need to fix the problem or contact Samsung.
  • If you’re certain that there is not a leak, water may have splashed onto the sensor. When it dries, check if the error is still there. If you’re hearing a noise and it’s bothering you, try to unplug your dishwasher at the circuit breaker.
  • If the detergent dispenser has been overfilled or there’s extra detergent around it, this can also cause the error.
  • If the dishwasher is connected to the garbage disposal, make sure that the cap is removed.

All Four (or more) Lights Are Blinking

If all four of your lights are blinking, This means the control panel is unable to communicate with the rest of the dishwasher. Since the control panel is where everything is controlled, any problems with it will render your dishwasher useless. If you can see all four lights are on, turn off the dishwasher at the circuit breaker, wait two minutes, and then turn it back on. If the error continues, visit the Support Center to request service.

Any Other Combination Of Lights Are Blinking

If you’re receiving a different combination of blinking lights, it doesn’t always mean that your dishwasher has an error code. On some models, the current status of the cycle will blink. Before you think that there’s a problem with your dishwasher because there are blinking lights, check if the dishwasher has any other symptoms.
