Dyson Air Purifier Error Exclamation Mark

Some users of the Dyson Air Purifier have encountered some problems such as an error that brings up an exclamation mark and is usually within a triangle shape.

You want your Dyson air purifier to function properly, which means figuring out what this error implies and what you can do to fix it. Read on to find out.

Why is Dyson Air Purifier Showing Exclamation Mark?

1. Air Purifier System Malfunction

Now, the system in a Dyson air purifier is relatively simple, as it pulls in air to be filtered, purified, and then recirculated as clean air.

The small fan that is used on the Dyson air purifier is small and quiet but it needs a motor and that motor along with other controls on the air purifier also needs a control board. With that said, the control board and the system can both malfunction.

This very well could be the issue that is triggering the error on your Dyson air purifier, which results in the display showing an exclamation mark within a triangle symbol.

See, when the control board detects an issue it sends a signal to the system that notifies the display to show a notification to the user that there is a problem with the machine.

Now, this, of course, can mean a number of different things for the Dyson air purifier but the most likely cause are that the system is malfunctioning. Luckily, this should be a relatively easy fix for anyone to perform.

Fix – Reset The Dyson Air Purifier

It is certainly a real bummer when your Dyson air purifier is not functioning properly and shows you an exclamation mark within a triangle symbol; luckily, this is most likely due to a system malfunction and can be fixed by a simple reset.

Dyson recommends that you reset the air purifier every time that you replace the air filter for the purifier.

With this in mind, you likely also have a remote for your Dyson air purifier, which you can use during the reset so that you can hopefully resolve this system malfunction issue.

You can reset your Dyson air purifier by pressing and holding the “Night Mode” button on your air purifier’s remote. After pressing and holding the “Night Mode” button on your Dyson air purifier’s remote, the display should begin a countdown starting at five.

It is important to note that by doing this you will only be resetting the filter life for your Dyson air purifier but it remains worth a try.

2. Battery for Remote is Dead

As previously mentioned, the system for the Dyson air purifier is relatively simple but that is not to say that it is not sensitive or clever.

With this in mind, the reason why your Dyson air purifier is not functioning correctly and is only showing you an exclamation mark within a triangle on the display could be because the battery for the remote is low or even dead.

Even though the battery is technically separate from the air purifying machine it still plays a critical role in the functions and commands.

If the battery within the remote for your Dyson air purifier is low or even dead, then it will trigger the error/warning sign on the display, which is an exclamation mark within a triangle shape. You will likely not get rid of this error until you have replaced the battery for the remote.

Fix – Replace Battery for Remote

As previously depicted, when the battery inside the remote for your Dyson air purifier is low or dead, you will need to replace the battery. You will need a CR 2032 battery for the remote that controls the Dyson air purifier.

If the remote’s battery is low or even dead, then the air purifier’s system will detect an issue, which will then trigger the exclamation mark within a triangle error on the display. This error notification is put into place to prevent users from running into issues if the battery dies for the air purifier’s remote.

While it is irritating when your Dyson air purifier does not function properly and will only show an error signal, it is also understandable why this error was put into place.

You will need a screwdriver to unscrew the screw that secures the battery compartment.

After you have removed the screw from the battery compartment, you can loosen the base of the battery and pull it away from the remote control.

After removing the old battery for the Dyson air purifier’s remote, then you can place and press into place the new CR 2032 battery. This should clear up the error issue and get your Dyson air purifier functioning properly once again.

3. Check The Power Supply

As you likely know, you have to plug your Dyson air purifier into an electrical outlet for a power source. However, this power source can be the cause of this error issue, which causes the display to show an exclamation mark within a triangle symbol.

It could be something as simple as you may have not plugged the machine in completely into the electrical outlet.

This can easily cause the Dyson air purifier’s system to detect a power issue, which will also cause the machine to show an error symbol on the display. Luckily, this should be a relatively simple fix.

Fix – Inspect Electrical Outlet and Plug

When you experience this issue with your Dyson air purifier that will also show an exclamation mark within a triangle symbol, you would be wise to check the power supply for the machine.

You could have accidentally not plugged the power cord into the electrical outlet all of the way, which will trigger the error symbol to appear on the display. It is also possible that the outlet you have chosen to plug the Dyson air purifier into is not providing sufficient power to the machine.

In such a scenario, you should try moving the power cord/machine to another electrical outlet, as the outlet could be the cause of the issue.

Furthermore, you should also check the electrical outlet for any warmth or burning marks, just in case there may have been an electrical short behind the outlet cover/face. It is better to be safe than to be sorry.

4. The Air Filter

All of this trouble could be caused by something as small as some routine maintenance. The Air filter inside your Dyson air purifier does need to be replaced at least every 12 months. This very well may be why you are seeing this error notification on the display.

Fix – Replace Air Filter

Luckily, this is a simple fix as all you need to do is replace the air filter for your Dyson air purifier. How you go about replacing the air filter is different for each model of air purifier.

You can easily find a YouTube video that will show you how to replace the air filter if you do not know how to change it.

5. Broken or Faulty Air Purifier

As much of a real bummer as it may be, it is possible that you have purchased a faulty machine and it is also equally possible that your Dyson air purifier might be broken.

Sure, Dyson air purifiers look sleek and nice; however, they are not made to be the sturdiest air purifier. With this in mind, you should consider if your Dyson air purifier has recently taken a hit by an object, has been knocked over, or has been showing signs of malfunction.

One simple accidental knock over could very easily break your Dyson air purifier, whether it is internally or externally. Either way, this can certainly trigger the error exclamation mark within a triangle symbol to appear on the display.

Fix – Check Warranty or Get New Machine

If you believe that your Dyson Air Purifier is broken or faulty, you should check the warranty for the machine (if you have one) and see if it may be covered.

Though if you do not want to go with a Dyson air purifier again, you can explore another great option (view on Amazon) and see if there might be an air purifying machine that better suits you and your household. Also, before you do get a new air purifying machine, you should be certain that you have exhausted all possibilities as to what is causing the error to occur on your Dyson air purifier.

With that said, someone purchasing a faulty air purifying machine is certainly not unheard of and is also quite common.
